This is the most commonly prescribed type of device since it is relatively low maintenance and field serviceable if a problem does occur. These use cables and harnesses to actuate the terminal device (hook or hand). They also allow for more finite/precise manipulation and are typically much lighter in weight than the myoelectric counterpart.
MYOELECTRIC ARM PROSTHESES
Myoelectric arms have long been out of the experimental phase and are now covered by most insurance companies. This type of artificial arm utilizes the patient's muscle impulses to control the prosthetic functions. They are easy and natural to operate and are worn comfortably without control cables and offer a cosmetically acceptable appearance

This is a non-functional device. The purpose of this device is to be aesthetically pleasing and provide the wearer with an image of a limb. They can be simple in design or very elaborate using very realistic materials.
